The Scottish Civic Trust welcomes new Chair

The Scottish Civic Trust, the national voice for local civic and heritage groups, has appointed Angela Bonney as Chair as of the 5th of December 2024.

The Scottish Civic Trust works in partnership with all communities to preserve the uniqueness of their place, promoting access to the historic environment and its stories to ensure its relevance in contemporary Scotland.

Angela brings to the Trust a wide range of experience with across communications and media relations. She is currently responsible for global communications and media relations at Insights Learning and Development. She is also serving her second term as a board member of Architecture and Design Scotland.

Angela was previously Head of UK Corporate Communications at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, where she managed member communications and public relations with particular focus on the devolved administrations. She has also held roles with Scottish Business in the Community and in agency PR.

Under her leadership, we will continue to advocate for Scotland’s built heritage, coordinate our national Doors Open Days festival, promote community-led placemaking through our My Place projects and enable everyone to engage with heritage through our Diverse Heritage programme. This is an exciting appointment that will shape our next phase of development as we seek to engage more people with Scotland’s places and stories than ever before.”

I have worked across the built environment throughout my career and have a deep appreciation for the role our heritage and places play in shaping communities. I am excited to build on the Trust’s track record of empowering people to improve their local places and celebrate their shared stories. I look forward to supporting the delivery of the Trust’s forthcoming Strategic Plan 2025-2029, which has the potential to make a meaningful impact on communities across Scotland.”

Angela takes over the role from Sue Evans, who stepped down as Chair in December 2024.
