My Place Photography is an annual Scotland-wide photography competition for school-age young people delivered by the Diverse Heritage team at Scottish Civic Trust, supported by Historic Environment Scotland and Jessops. The young people submit photographs of the built environment, encouraging them to look at the heritage in the places they live and develop an understanding of things around them through the medium of photography.
From 2023, we had additional funding specifically for My Place Workshops to support young people from refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant backgrounds recruited by The Guardianship project from the Scottish Refugee Council. They will explore and interpret the built environment through facilitated photography skills workshops and follow-on curatorial reflection sessions. Each group will have a photo session in these buildings, based around theme of “Power”. These workshops and sessions will be delivered by photography and outreach facilitator Open Aye. The workshops will take place in Dundee at The McManus Art Gallery and Museum and Edinburgh at the Scottish Parliament Building by the end of January 2024.
