Sharing Stories

Doors Open Days in Scotland is part of the Council of Europe’s wider European Heritage Days (EHD) programme. In 2018, the Scottish Civic Trust and the National Trust in England co-led the Sharing Stories project, which sought to better understand levers, barriers, and enablers to participation in European Heritage days by individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Sharing Stories was based on the founding principles of shared values and the importance of connecting local people with their heritage.  As our world faces a number of shifting and complex contexts, the need to understand our own and others’ history, background and culture is more vital than ever.

EHD coordinators, like much of the rest of wider heritage sector, are becoming increasingly aware that our work does not always reflect the full diversity of our countries and are keen to ensure our work provides positive opportunities for the widest possible range of visitors and participants.

The Sharing Stories final report is available here in English and in French.
