The Scottish Civic Trust Announces Winners of National Photography Competition for Young People

The Scottish Civic Trust has revealed the winners of its 2025 My Place Photography Competition, which encourages young people across Scotland to explore and celebrate the places, buildings and stories that shape their communities.
This year’s competition, supported by my-picture.co.uk, attracted hundreds of entries from children and young people aged 4–18.
Responding to the 2025 theme “My Community,” participants submitted thoughtful and creative photographs reflecting local life across Scotland.
With support from the Wheatley Foundation, a group of pupils from Park Primary School in Stranraer took part in outdoor photography walks and an editing workshop led by local photographer Colin Tennant.
The results of these workshops were then submitted to the My Place Photography Competition and celebrated at an awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Main Category Winners

  • Primary Winner: Snowball – Kaiya D, Tollbrae Primary School, North Lanarkshire
  • Secondary Winner: Cats Adventure – Edward R, A the Airts, Dumfries and Galloway
  • ‘My Community’ Theme Winner: Sanquhar Street Scene – Lewis M, A the Airts, Dumfries and Galloway
  • Park Primary School Winners: Cruiz, Joe and Tyler, Park Primary School, Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway

The winners and a selection of commended entries showcase the rich diversity of Scotland’s urban and rural environments as seen through the eyes of young people.
Angela Bonney, a member of the 2025 judging panel, said:
The photographs submitted this year provide us with a true picture of how our young people experience their surroundings and their place within them. In a world filled with selfies, it’s important to keep turning the camera outward - capturing the buildings, streets, and communities that create a sense of place. These images show us the value in providing young people with a creative means of exploring identity and community.
