Job Opportunity: Diverse Heritage Events Officer
The Scottish Civic Trust has an exciting opportunity available to work with us as our Diverse Heritage Events Officer!
Main purpose of job
The purpose of the role is to coordinate the Trust’s Diverse Heritage events and activities, working closely with the Director and Diverse Heritage Strategy & Development Officer. This project involves supporting and developing the Trust’s network of local heritage and community groups, amenity societies and civic trusts through events, including an annual learning event, and promotional material and resources. The project encourages all members of the community, especially young people and people from marginalised and excluded groups, such as people of colour, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and disabled persons, to take an active interest in local cultural heritage. The role also involves promoting Diverse Heritage through the Trust’s website, e-bulletins, social networking sites, talks, civic forums and media campaigns. Diverse Heritage is supported by Historic Environment Scotland and is a three-year, part-time post, with the possibility of extension (subject to funding).
Main responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a minimum of 6 intergenerational local heritage events to engage people of colour / asylum-seekers / refugees, LGBTQI+ community, and disabled persons, using Doors Open Days as a platform for outputs where appropriate. Activities will be co-designed and co-delivered in partnership with community groups and be responsive to their needs.
- Build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of community groups; offer ad hoc support to groups, e.g. assist them in applying for funding or provide other guidance upon request.
- Delivery of an annual learning event.
- Contribute to follow-on funding applications and submit small-grant funding applications.
- Coordinate and develop the Diverse Heritage project, working closely with the Director and Diverse Heritage Strategy & Development Officer.
Post requirements
Qualifications
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in built heritage, such as historic buildings, monuments and parks. This can be demonstrated through any of the following:
- Completion of a relevant degree (architectural history, architecture, archaeology, museum studies)
- Volunteering experience
- Participation in relevant clubs or societies
- Social media posts or other published sources that show a sustained commitment to and interest in the heritage sector
All candidates should have basic proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and should be able to prepare and format reports, letters and other documents as required.

Salary and benefits
The post will be £25,000 pro-rata, based on a 21 hour working week. The post is fixed-term for 3 years, with the possibility of extension (subject to funding). In addition, the Scottish Civic Trust will make pension contributions of 4.5% of your salary towards a workplace pension on your behalf. This post has an allowance of 28 days holiday per annum pro rata, plus specified public holidays.

Following the submission deadline, long-listed candidates will be invited to complete a competency-based test online from 25th – 31st May. After that, the Director and Diverse Heritage Strategy & Development Officer will shortlist candidates, with interviews being held on Wednesday 8th June. It is intended to take no more than five candidates to interview stage. The interview will take the form of a panel interview with 2 interviewers.
