This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of The Scottish Civic Trust, a small charity with a national remit. Our organisation is experiencing a period of dynamic growth and we are seeking a Marketing and Events Officer to support us as we continue our journey.
The Scottish Civic Trust is the national voice for Scotland’s civic and local heritage groups.  Founded in 1967 to help people connect to their built heritage and countryside, preserve the uniqueness of their locality and appreciate how this connects to the wider unique character of Scotland, we work to ensure that historic built heritage, its stories, and the wider historic environment is celebrated and preserved, working to ensure it is valued in modern life and planning decisions.  We take a place-based approach to involving all of Scotland’s communities in celebrating our rich heritage while ensuring its relevance in the present day.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Communications and Events Officer
Responsible to: Director 
Salary/hours: £27,645 35 hours
Main purpose of role:
With a strong interest in Scotland’s built heritage, you will develop and manage Communications, Marketing and Events for The Scottish Civic Trust to engage with our core audience, develop new audiences and built SCT’s presence throughout the sector and beyond. 
Main Responsibilities:
● Develop and maintain SCT’s Communications Strategy
● Develop content strategies and update schedules in order to ensure the effective ongoing management of online content. 
● Source, write and edit content for display on Scottish Civic Trust social media and website platforms in collaboration with staff and the Director  
● Ensure best practise is reflected in the online platforms 
● Manage online enquiries, including social media interaction 
● Manage visual content to retain existing audience and develop new demographics 
● Undertake regular audits and reviews to ensure that online content is up-to-date and meets user needs. 
● Ensure effective SEO and compliance with accessibility standards. 
● Respond to enquiries from journalists, in collaboration with the Director and draft press releases
● Be the key contact point for online liaison and engagement with social media enquiries, referring to specialist staff where necessary
● Contribute to the marketing and promotion of annual events to ensure effective market penetration of SCT’s brands and identity.
● Establish and grow key relationships including external partners, journalists and promoters, working with the Partnerships and Memberships Officer
● Support sponsorship and income generation opportunities, designing and producing marketing material. 
● Support the Director with sponsorship pitches and funding applications
● Develop innovative approaches to the promotion of SCT’s activities, for example, celebrity ambassadors, sponsored corporate events etc, working with the Partnerships and Memberships Officer
● Promote SCT’s Civic Celebration and other events, contributing to event organisation where appropriate
● Provide training and support to the SCT affiliate membership in communications and effective marketing when required to support SCT’s programmes of work
● Manage the development and design of SCT’s corporate printed materials
● Support other staff to promote and market their projects, and providing added value to funding applications where appropriate
● Develop relationships with marketing organisations including DMOs and Visit Scotland and with interested journalists where appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE AND/OR EXPERIENCE
● Several years’ experience working in a marketing/ communication environment E  
● Experience of managing a website and regularly updating content E
● Experience of copy writing and producing accessible written materials E
● Experience of implementing online marketing tactics to drive web traffic, including search, media, optimisation, social networking and email E
● Experience of event promotion and organisation E
● Experience of developing partnerships with marketing organisations, DMO’s regional development agencies or similar E
● Competent using Word, Excel and other Microsoft packages E
● Competent using Canva for basic graphic design E
● Experience of working in the Scottish heritage/cultural/tourism sectors D
● Experience of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, 
Photoshop D
● Experience of working with Umbraco websites D
● Knowledge of W3C Web Content Accessibility guidelines D
● Understanding of the heritage funding landscape D
